


Northern Iceland experiences some of the mildest temperatures in the country and offers a wide range of scenery to explore, from the unexpectedly lush to the awesomely spectacular. On your Ensemble Experience you’ll visit one of the magical natural wonders of this region.
You’ll begin with a motor-coach ride along the scenic coastline of Eyjafjörður Fjord. After driving through lush and fertile farmlands, you’ll reach Goðafoss Waterfall, the “Waterfall of the Gods”. You’ll have a brief stop at this stunning and historically significant location.
You’ll then return to the charming town of Akureyri, colorfully framed by the sea and the mountains. Continue with a short sightseeing tour of the old quarter.
Akureyri has long been the economic and cultural center of Northern Iceland. Its importance as such can be seen in the architecture of many of the town’s older buildings that bear a strong Danish
influence from the time that Iceland was part of the Danish kingdom.
Your last stop is the Akureyri Botanical Garden. The Botanical Garden was founded in 1912 and grows every flora species indigenous to Iceland as well as an extensive collection of high-latitude and high-altitude plants from around the world. The Garden is popular with locals and tourists alike that come here to enjoy the peace and quiet that it offers.
After your visit to the Botanical Garden you’ll return to the pier.

The small city is nestled at the base of Iceland’s longest fjord, Eyjafjörður; a spectacular stretch of water that spans nearly 40 miles. First settled by Norse Vikings in the 9th century, today Akureyri is the perfect launchpad from which to explore Northern Iceland’s greatest treasures. Piercing blue fjords, bubbling mud pools, snow-kissed mountains and tumbling waterfalls all form part of the spellbinding cocktail that is Akureyri’s scenery. As you sail past Hrisey, you’ll see a diverse coastline made up of jagged edges and softer stone beaches. Take endless photos of the landscape, including the many white buildings, all perfectly trimmed with their colourful roofs, that line the shore.
Hrisey is a known location for bird watching in Iceland. Over 40 different species can be spotted in the skies overhead and on the ground, and you’ll likely see ptarmigans, moorland birds, and arctic terns, for the latter of which Hrisey boasts the largest breeding colony in Europe. If bird watching isn’t for you, perhaps keep your eyes on the waters that surround Hrisey.
